dvd players: focus on STi5519 (and STi5508)

A great bunch of the available lower cost dvd players of various brands are based
on the same hardware, even when showing up with different cases, front panels or
different audio and video connectors. In most cases, the mainboard is the same:
labled 12MB04 and using the STi5519 from STMicroelectronics.
The currently available
Cyberhome DVD 505
has its own PCB layout and comes
with the STi5519 (early versions came with the STi5508 instead) and
twice as much flash memory (2MB).
This website has its focus on these devices.

just a simple tool that makes it a little easier to change the configuration file 'hws.ab' according
to the structure given by the format file 'hwf.ab'. Actually both files consist of slightly scrambled
block of plain text along with a binary header.

this tool operates the dvd player's JTAG test access port in order to re-write a messed up flash memory.
You just have to fit in the 20 pin plug (usually not soldered) and build yourself a simple JTAG to parallel
port interface.
